Hobbies that are both relaxing and creative are my favorite! At the moment I’m especially fond of journaling, teaching myself to crochet, and – of course – coloring! It’s good for me to have an imaginative interest that is essentially stress-free. I also like making the world more colorful and putting my own special flair into as much as possible!
Color therapy, adult coloring, whatever you like to call it, is a wonderful way to unplug and unwind. With a nice coloring book and some colored pencils, I can use my imagination to create some fabulous artwork without the pressure of drawing (which I’m terrible at, FYI). I also find that it’s an excellent anti-anxiety pastime. I can relieve some of my restlessness without having to overexert my brain.
My daughter and I have always had fun coloring together, too. I really appreciate having a fun hobby that we can share! We each have our own set of coloring tools and books – she loves coloring pictures for each other and exchanging them. I love seeing my little girl’s art skills develop as she grows!
I personally enjoy fun, entertaining coloring books, as opposed to calming, soothing ones. Flowers and mandalas are nice, but they can get kind of boring for me after a while. I’ve always liked coloring books that allow me to explore my favorite subjects and interests.
Here are four coloring books I can’t wait to get my hands on! They’re all on Amazon so when I finish one book, I can have the next one in my hands in just two days with Amazon Prime! (If you don’t have Amazon Prime, you can try it out for free for 30 days right here.)
Happy Snacks Color-In’ Book
I can’t wait to dig into this Happy Snacks Color-In’ Book! I love coloring food (especially desserts) because I can get super creative with my colors and invent all kinds of yummy treats! The pages in this coloring book are bound with O-rings to lay flat. They’re also one-sided and perforated so that they’re easy to tear out and get crafty with!
Color The 90’s: The Ultimate 90’s Coloring Book for Adults
I love 90’s nostalgia. With this Color the 90’s coloring book, I’ll get to revisit some of my favorite childhood memories like watching Bill Nye the Science Guy (which my daughter and I just started watching on Netflix), eating Dunkaroos (my favorite snack as a little girl), and praying that my Furby didn’t wake up in the middle of the night (oh, the terror!).
The Splat: Coloring the 90’s
Nickelodeon’s coloring book, The Splat, allows us to return to the greatest era of cartoons – the 90’s (I told you I love 90’s nostalgia). If you grew up in the 90’s, like I did, you probably watched Nickelodeon at some point – or religiously… Now we can bring our favorite cartoons back to life with this coloring book featuring Aah! Real Monsters, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rugrats, and much more!
Mom Life: A Snarky Adult Coloring Book
“Keep calm and mommy on.” I think this Mom Life coloring book would go perfectly with a glass of iced coffee and Gilmore Girl re-runs while the kids enjoy nap time (those few minutes are so sweet). It certainly seems to grasp the concept that motherhood is hilarious, but sometimes you just have to laugh to keep from crying. 😂 (And I’ll have to get the also hilarious Dad Life coloring book for my husband. Family coloring party! 🎉)
