I’ve heard that you can tell a lot about a woman just by looking at her nails.
When life gets demanding, the first things we tend to start neglecting are our self-care/primping routines; and I don’t know about you, but my fingernails are definitely down towards the bottom of my grooming totem pole.
Needless to say, I have not been manicuring my nails much lately.
But I’m embarking on a new self-care journey. The beginnings of which involve (re)establishing some self-pampering habits, i.e. wearing more clothes that I look and feel good in (even if it’s just around the house), incorporating more pretty jewelry into my ensembles, taking the time to have fun with my hair and makeup, spritzing on my favorite perfume every day (my husband insisted on that one 😉), and, of course, painting my nails more often!
If you’re like me, though, you may suffer from (what seems like) permanent novice-level nail skills, unsteady hands (I’m like a Chihuahua – too small for the amount of energy in me. Lol), and/or a severe lack of time.
I always do my own nails, though.
Not only does it make me feel better to hang on to the money it would take to get my nails done every… week? I don’t know how often people get manicures. 😁 But y’all already know how much I love doing things myself whenever I can!
So I’ve gathered 7 of my favorite easy nail designs for myself – as well as all of y’all – to refer to when we need some chic manicure ideas that are totally doable for anyone who can paint their own nails.
I have personally tried each of these easy nail design so I know firsthand what a snap they are!
If you have trouble painting your non-dominant hand or are extra strapped for time (which I always seem to be), just do the design on one nail!
I’ve been painting an accent nail on myself since I was in high school – I’d say it was boring and ordinary to have all of my nails the same color – and everyone told me it was weird and silly. And now they’re probably doing too! 😆😆
There’s a short lesson on staying true to yourself there. 😉
There isn’t any fancy equipment required for these easy nail designs, either. Any tools you may need can most likely be found in your house right now!
Our nails are a blank canvas waiting to be dressed with a statement of personal style! And every gal, no matter how skilled or busy, should be able to have fun and get creative in whatever facet she desires!
The following easy nail designs can also easily be adapted to the upcoming holiday season so you can look your best for all the festivities! 🙌🎉

1. Saran Wrap Nails
Paint your nails as normal with your choice of color (without a top coat of course though 😉).
After they’re dry, crinkle a small piece of saran wrap (I’ve also seen others use tin foil!) into a ball.
Then paint your second color nail polish onto the plastic, stamp it on a paper towel to get rid of the excess, and stamp your nails with it!
I skip the last step in the design above to make it extra easy! But totally go for it if you want to!
Most other saran wrap techniques I’ve seen involve painting a second color on top of a dry coat of polish, then using a little ball of plastic wrap or tin foil to stamp the nails to remove some of the polish before it dries. This way has never worked for me, personally, but using the wrap to apply the other color is foolproof in my opinion!
Use nail polish in holiday colors for a delightful, festive look!
2. Tin Foil Nails
Genevieve uses a toothpick to place small pieces of cut up foil onto half-dry nail polish. Check out her blog for a full tutorial!
I’ve seen others use glitter or gold leaf with the same technique so this look can really go with any style! Ooh! Green and gold would make a gorgeous Christmas design! 🎄✨
3. Easy Cloud Nail Art
I use a bobby pin and white nail polish (as opposed to a brush + paint in Violet’s how-to) to make these super easy clouds on my nails.
Pink skies are totally possible with this super adorable design! (I know that’s not really holiday, but I need some pink in my life at all times. 😁) This look gets even cuter with a sparkly topcoat! ✨
4. Confetti Nails
This pictorial pretty much sums it up, but the full details on this look are over on The Beauty Department!
My one recommendation on this one, though, is to use a toothpick to place your confetti so you don’t end up with a little ink dot on it. 😊
5. DIY Nail Stickers
Take on any almost any nail design with your own DIY nail stickers!
This technique also works great with washi tape! 💖
I try not to take the tape all the way to the edges of my nails, though. It has a tendency of trying to peel up right at the edges – leave a small space between the edge of your nails and the tape so that your topcoat can keep those ends glued down.
Make yourself some green triangles with this method and you’re in business for some charming Christmas tree nails!
6. Ombre Glitter
I never realized how easy this darling ombre glitter look could be until I stumbled upon this tutorial.
I like to use colorful glitter on top of white polish for a cool twist!
7. Foxy Nails
I’ve been going gaga over cute little animal nail designs lately, too! It’s like having a little pet with me at all times. 😊
I’m still working on mastering even some of the “easy” ones, but this fox design is extremely effortless – particularly if you use a sharpie (which I do)!
Just wait for the white nail polish to completely dry – like, totally, completely – otherwise, it will smudge. 😢 Then use an orange sharpie and a toothpick + black polish to finish the look!
So forget expensive, time-consuming manicures!
Use one of these 7 easy nail designs for the perfect finishing touch to your pretty holiday look!
