I think it’s safe to say that most style-conscious people have embraced the return of 1990’s style at this point. Even I, who predicted (and dreaded) the return of grunge, have found myself ogling over-sized denim jackets, leather pants, and clunky boots. (Plus, I love that I can totally get away with saying that my unkempt bob and smudged eye makeup are intentional if I really don’t feel like getting ready. 😜)
Fashion fads aren’t the only things past ’90’s children (including myself) are reliving. I still own (and, admittedly, listen to – on the reg) Hanson’s Middle of Nowhere album; and what girly girl doesn’t adore those famous rainbow-colored animal patterns from Lisa Frank? I also know I’m not the only one re-watching some of my favorite old TV shows. I’m almost through Sabrina: the Teenage Witch at this point, but Boy Meets World was first – a classic ’90’s sitcom.
There on the right is the matriarch of the Matthews family – Amy. Not only was the famous Mrs. Matthews a great TV mom, she also had great mom style!
Episode after episode I noticed how cozy Amy Matthews looked handing down life lessons in her layered – often over-sized – clothing.
And with her plaid shirts, over-sized button downs, funky color choices, and narrow pants aplenty she was definitely rocking those ’90’s trends in her own, laid back way.
For me, my personal style is a way of, not only expressing myself, but nurturing my creativity – which I like to do at every possible opportunity. Being a stay at home mom doesn’t really call for glamorous fashion, but I still love having fun with my clothes. I’m also one of those “look good, feel good” believers, so I look for apparel that’s cute, easy to wear, and comfortable enough to take care of every day business.
Plus, with cooler weather upon us, the need for warmer attire arises. We all know that layering is the best way to defend against the chilly autumn air, but it was also, like, totally popular in the ’90s.
So I’ve compiled 4 easy outfit ideas inspired by the ’90s and one of TV’s greatest moms!
A little grungy, a little girly, and always fun, fresh, and simple!
