Who here loves polka dots? (I do! I do!) It’s a timeless pattern that is insanely versatile. Peek into the closet of almost any American female and you’re likely to find at least one polka-dotted garment. Skirts are also a staple in nearly every woman’s collection, so I wanted to share some simple ideas for looking cute and staying comfortable with something you probably already own – like a polka dot skirt!I’m currently in between polka dot skirts, but I do have one in an adorable houndstooth print to substitute in the meantime; Or I could layer some pieces over my polka dot dress – you could even do polka-dotted pants if you have a pair! It’s all about improvising and making what you have work for you!
1. With a Denim Vest!
I like that the denim vest gives this outfit just a hint of the trending return of ’90’s grunge. Foxy’s Domestic Side assembled this getup as part of a style challenge and I just think she looks so cool and comfy! Pile on your favorite accessories, slip on some sandals and you’re ready to go!
2. Keep it Cool with a Striped T-Shirt
I love mixing prints; It’s fun and it’s funky! It can be tricky though. A good rule of thumb is to stick with the same colors i.e. What Nicole Wore. Don’t have a striped shirt? Raid your husband’s closet, take a note from Nicole, and tie it up! She finishes off her outfit with a pair of comfy-looking leopard print flats, which are a great choice, but I would opt for a floral pattern to add some extra color!
3. Reverse the Colors
Bows and Sequins gives us an easygoing way to look chic and put together here. Navy skirt with white polka dots? Match it with a white shirt with navy polka dots. You’re don’t have to make it a blouse though! A T-shirt or tank would look just as cute and would probably be more comfortable. Obviously, use this technique with any colors you prefer – just think of the possibilities!
4. Black and White = Neutral
The great thing about neutral colors is that even when you put them into a pattern, they’re still neutral. Which means that a black and white polka-dotted skirt will go with almost any other color. You can match your shirt, shoes, bag, keep them all the same color, and still look super stylish; But I love what I found over at With a Wink and a Twirl! I’m drooling over her use of bright colors and although each piece is a different color, those black and white polka dots pull it all together and keep it cute and classy.
