Shrimp is my favorite food. Of all time. You’ve seen Forrest Gump. (Maybe that should have been a question, but if you haven’t seen Forrest Gump.. Well, you need to.) I’m like Bubba. I love shrimp.
All kinds of shrimp.
Since moving to Arizona 6 years ago, I’ve also developed a love for Southwestern food. The words chili-lime instantly hook my attention and I’ll eat almost anything with mango salsa on it.
I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to eat my favorite food, so I’ve rounded up 5 yummy ways to take shrimp to the Southwest!
I had to start off the list with a classic. But it’s a classic for a reason. And that reason is that shrimp tacos are damn delicious. La Salsa is one of my favorite places to go for shrimp tacos; You can also easily make your own terrific chili lime shrimp tacos at home 😍!
2. Shrimp Taco Salad
Of course tacos are going to take me to taco salads. Taco salads are a dish that everyone makes differently – that’s part of what makes them so excellent! Avocado, black beans, and corn, though, really punch up the southwestern style of this all-in-one meal. I’ve had a weakness for popcorn shrimp since I was a little girl, so, needless to say, I find popcorn shrimp taco salad – like this one from Mom on Timeout – just about irresistible. If you’re not really into popcorn shrimp, though, you can use whatever kind of shrimp you prefer!
Quesadillas are super easy – and fun – to make! They’re also easy to customize and appeal to just about anyone because you can use almost any kind of ingredients you like. The only requirements for this dish are tortillas and cheese, but if you want to have a true Southwest experience, try this Shrimp Fiesta Quesadilla at Jo Cooks!
Being from the South, I’m a fan of almost anything fried. My husband and I will often fry up some corn tortillas and eat them with salsa or whatever else we have around. So it only makes sense that if you fry a delicious tortilla and pile it with all my favorite Southwestern ingredients (how easy is that?!), I’m going to be hooked! These Avocado Shrimp Tostadas from What’s Gabby Cooking look just about perfect to me!
5. With Chorizo
Did you know that shrimp and chorizo are actually, like, best friends? It’s true. They love being together. There are different kinds of chorizo, but, obviously, my favorite is that spicy Mexican chorizo. YUUUUM! And who doesn’t love pasta? This Southwest Shrimp & Chorizo Pasta by Marla Meridith is a mouth-watering combination of three delightful, comforting foods and flavors.
